Marking 10 Years of Google in the Baltics – Vilnius Added to the “Google Arts & Culture” Virtual Art Gallery

Marking 10 Years of Google in the Baltics – Vilnius Added to the “Google Arts & Culture” Virtual Art Gallery

Marking a decade of Google’s presence in the Baltic States, Vilnius has received a truly exceptional honour. The Lithuanian capital has become the first city in the region to be featured on the world-renowned Google Arts & Culture platform — a digital gallery visited by millions of culture lovers across the globe.

The newly launched Visit Vilnius collection, created together with 11 of the city’s leading museums and cultural institutions, opens a vivid window into the soul of Lithuania’s capital. From its centuries-old heritage to its vibrant arts scene, Vilnius is now ready to inspire the world. For Google, this marks yet another milestone in its long-term commitment to fostering digital innovation across the Baltic region since 2015.

The collection features more than 80 curated exhibitions and over 2,000 artefacts. Visitors can explore the UNESCO-listed Vilnius Old Town, celebrating 30 years on the World Heritage List, and admire a stunning 3D presentation of masterpieces by Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis — one of Lithuania’s most treasured artists.

“Vilnius has a rich history and cultural heritage, so we are delighted to present it to the global Google Arts & Culture audience. Visitors from around the world can now explore more than 80 stories, 2,000 photos, and over 20 Street View scenes that allow them to virtually experience the city’s museums, galleries, events, and festivals,” says Liudmila Kobyakova, Programme Manager at Google Arts & Culture.

Since launching operations in the Baltic States in 2015, Google has consistently contributed to the region’s digital transformation, economic growth, AI literacy, and cultural preservation.

“Over the past decade, we have helped thousands of local businesses reach global markets and strengthen their infrastructure. But our commitment to the Baltic States extends beyond business. Through the ‘Grow with Google’ programme, we have trained more than 95,000 people in digital skills across the region, and since 2018 the philanthropic arm Google.org has invested over €5.2 million in projects that have helped more than 380,000 people improve their digital and AI literacy. We have established long-term partnerships with organisations such as Women Go Tech, Vilnius Tech University, Riga Tech Girls, Vedliai, and HK Unicorns Squad. We also actively support the start-up ecosystem through Google for Startups accelerators and our collaboration with Turing College. Now, with the Visit Vilnius project, we are proud to open Lithuania’s capital and its cultural heritage to the world,” says Vytautas Kubilius, Google’s Head for the Baltic States.

A Tribute to Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis

This project is also a heartfelt tribute to Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated this year. Although UNESCO recognised his legacy in 2011 by including him in the Memory of the World Register, his art remains a mesmerising discovery for international audiences. Thanks to the immersive 3D experience created for Google Arts & Culture, Čiurlionis’ works now stand proudly alongside the virtual galleries of Gustav Klimt, Leonardo da Vinci, and Johannes Vermeer — shining with the timeless, poetic light that defines Lithuania’s cultural identity.
