VU Researcher Prof. Plikusienė Receives a Prestigious Award

To recognise outstanding scientific achievements and contributions to science and science policy, the Young Academy of Europe annually presents the André Mischke Award. This distinction is awarded each year to a single European researcher. This year, the award was granted to Prof. Ieva Plikusienė, a researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences and the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University (VU).

The Young Academy of Europe is an independent organisation of European researchers, bringing together leading experts across disciplines. Its mission is to represent the interests of early-career scientists, provide expert recommendations to European Union science policy makers, and foster international interdisciplinary collaboration. It is the experts of this organisation who recognised Prof. Plikusienė’s outstanding contributions to science and science policy.

Prof. Plikusienė is an internationally recognised researcher working at the intersection of life sciences, physics, and nanotechnology. Her career is marked by numerous distinctions. In 2022, she was named one of the 15 most promising young scientists in the world by the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme. In 2025, she became the first Lithuanian scientist appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the UNESCO International Basic Sciences Programme.
