Lithuania continues to expand international partnerships! This time establishing collaboration with South Korea.
South Korea is one of the world leaders in the field of biotechnology, especially in the development and production of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. This country is one of Lithuania’s priority markets, so we aim to strengthen relations between the two countries in various fields. In 2021 a representative office of Lithuania was opened in Seoul, whose activities related to the development of business relations focus on advanced technologies, including biotechnology.
On August 3-5, the international conference Bioplus Interphex 2022 Korea, organized by the Korean Biotechnology Industry Organization – KoreaBIO, was held in the capital of South Korea. LBTA together with partners, organized the participation of Lithuanian companies in this exhibition according to the project “Search for new foreign markets of the Lithuanian Biotechnology Association” implemented in accordance with the 2014-2020 European Union funds investment action program measures 03.2.1-LVPA-K-801 “New opportunities LT” no. 06.
Five companies from the Lithuanian biotechnology sector, “Cureline Baltic“, “Placenta JSC“, “Caszyme“, “Biomapas“, and “Innovative diagnostic center” participated at the conference Bioplus Interphex 2022 Korea. They had the opportunity to present themselves at the seminar organized by the “Lithuanian Innovation Agency“. Lithuanian representatives received a lot of attention. Even local media wrote about the Lithuanian delegation.
Jovita Neliupšienė, Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Economy and Innovation gave a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the conference. Rasa Uždavinytė, head of the International Development Department of the Innovation Agency Lithuania also presented Lithuania in her speech. Exhibition participants were invited to participate in the European Industrial Biotechnology Forum – EFIB2022, which will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania on 2022 October 25-27 and to “Life Science Baltics” event on 2023 September 20-12.
LBTA Vice-President Agnė Vaitkevičienė and KoreaBIO Vice-President Seung Kyou Lee, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on August 4. This will help to maintain further cooperation and to establish successful bilateral partnership with the companies of the sector.
Prof. Virginijus Šikšnys presented the research acomplished at the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University in the field of CRISPR technology, shared with the participants the latest discoveries and the vision for the future of gene editing at the gene editing session opening. His speech was acknowledged in the local media.
