New International Series Honey Chooses Vilnius as a Filming Location

Vilnius is once again becoming a major international filming hub as the city transforms into 1980s East Berlin for the new six-part television series Honey. The production is being filmed in Lithuania by local production company Baltic Film Services in collaboration with the UK-based Sid Gentle Films.

Set against the backdrop of Cold War–era East Berlin, Honey follows a young and ambitious British spy navigating political tension, counterintelligence operations, and complex personal relationships. Filming is currently underway in Vilnius, where the city’s architecture and urban diversity are being used to recreate the atmosphere of the divided German capital.

Producer Christopher Hall says this is not his first experience working in Lithuania. Around twenty years ago, Vilnius was considered as a potential filming location for the BBC series Archangel, starring Daniel Craig, but was ultimately deemed too modern at the time.

“Now Vilnius has proven to be an ideal stand-in for East Berlin,” Hall notes. “The story blends several genres, including elements of comedy, a love triangle, and moments of real danger, but at its heart are the relationships between the main characters.”

According to the producer, Lithuania stands out for its wide range of locations, competitive tax incentives, and highly professional local crews. The production employs a team of 145 film professionals, 130 of whom are Lithuanian. A small group of specialists was brought in from the UK and Germany to ensure historical accuracy, particularly in costume and production design related to the East Berlin period.

The series is being filmed in various Vilnius districts, including Naujamiestis and Lazdynai, as well as at the Vilnius Palace of Culture, Entertainment and Sports, which has been transformed into multiple on-screen locations, from a bridal salon to secret police offices and interrogation rooms. Filming in Vilnius is scheduled to last 57 days, with additional shooting taking place in Kaunas, Klaipėda, Palanga, and studio facilities across Lithuania.

According to the Vilnius Film Office, the production of Honey highlights the city’s growing reputation as a trusted destination for high-end international film and television projects. The Film Office notes that Vilnius continues to attract foreign productions thanks to its experienced crews, efficient filming permit system, diverse architecture, and access to Lithuania’s film tax incentive, which makes the country competitive on the European market.

The project is being developed by an award-winning creative team known for internationally successful series such as Killing Eve, The Durrells, and Extraordinary. The premiere of Honey is scheduled for 2026 and will be broadcast on BBC and ZDF.
