Lithuania has solidified its reputation as a leader in digital public services, climbing from 7th to 6th place in the 2024 European eGovernment Benchmark. This significant leap among 37 European countries underscores our commitment to digitizing the public sector and enhancing service quality.
“Many of Lithuania’s digitisation indicators are above the European Union average. This international recognition affirms our efforts in improving public services for businesses and citizens. We are dedicated to making almost all public services digitally accessible in the near future,” stated Aušrinė Armonaitė, Minister of Economy and Innovation.
Key Achievements
With an impressive score of 86 out of 100, Lithuania ranks among the most advanced countries in Europe. Erika Kuročkina, Deputy Minister for Economy and Innovation, highlighted that around 72% of Lithuanians aged 16-74 use digital public services. “Our goal is to make these services even more convenient, modern, transparent, and international,” she said.
Benchmarking Criteria
The eGovernment Benchmark evaluates digital public services based on four criteria:
– User-orientation
– Transparency
– Technical adaptability of e-services
– Cross-border e-services
Lithuania’s standout performance includes:
– Technical Adaptation: Scoring 94 points, with top marks in digitisation of records (100), electronic documents (91), pre-filled forms (92), and electronic identification (94). The eID indicator is particularly notable, increasing from 89 to 94 points, well above the EU average of 71.
– Consumer Orientation: Improved to 94 points, excelling in Consumer Support (97) and Internet Access (92).
European Leaders
The survey, evaluating over 14,000 public sector websites across 37 countries, places Malta (97), Estonia (92), Luxembourg (90), Iceland (90), Finland (88), Lithuania (86), and Denmark (85) at the forefront of digital public services. The EU average score is 76 points.
