Life satisfaction in Lithuania has reached its highest level on record. According to the latest Eurobarometer survey conducted in October 2025, 88% of Lithuanians say they are satisfied with their lives. This marks a four-percentage-point increase compared with the previous year and, for the first time, places Lithuania above the European Union average of 86%.
The finding reflects a broader sense of confidence within society, even as economic and geopolitical pressures persist. Inflation remains the most frequently cited concern, identified by 39% of respondents — three percentage points more than in autumn 2024. This is followed by defence and security (26%) and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine (20%). These priorities distinguish Lithuania, along with much of Northern and Eastern Europe, from other EU countries where security issues generate less public concern.

Strong Trust in the European Union and Optimism About Its Future
High life satisfaction is accompanied by strong trust in the European Union. The survey shows that 66% of Lithuanians trust the EU, the second-highest result among all Member States and well above the EU average of 48%. Confidence is also evident in economic perceptions: 73% of Lithuanians rate the EU economy positively, the highest figure in the EU, compared with an EU average of 46%. Looking ahead, 71% of respondents in Lithuania say they are optimistic about the EU’s future, ranking the country fourth among Member States.
Commenting on the findings, the Head of the European Commission Representation in Lithuania, Marius Vaščega, said:
“The latest Eurobarometer survey shows sustained public trust in the European Union in Lithuania. As many as 66% of Lithuanians say they trust the EU, which is the second-highest result in the EU and significantly above the EU average. Lithuanians also stand out for their optimism about the EU economy and the future of the European Union.”
Defence and Security Identified as Lithuania’s Top EU Priority
Defence and security emerge as a defining priority for the Lithuanian public. 54% of respondents believe that defence and security should be the EU’s most important priority over the next five years — the highest share recorded in the EU (EU average: 34%). Similar views are expressed in Finland (53%) and Denmark (52%).
Support for Ukraine remains exceptionally strong. The survey shows that 77% of Lithuanians support military assistance to Ukraine (EU average: 57%), 85% support financial assistance (EU 77%), 82% back economic sanctions against Russia (EU 73%), and 71% support Ukraine’s future membership of the EU (EU 59%).

Stable and Positive Assessment of Democracy
Assessments of democracy at home remain stable and broadly positive. 55% of Lithuanians say they are satisfied with the way democracy functions, slightly above the EU average of 54%. Although this figure has declined marginally compared with autumn 2024, positive assessments have exceeded negative ones for two consecutive years, indicating sustained confidence. At the same time, 86% of respondents believe that disinformation poses a serious threat to democracy, highlighting strong public awareness of democratic risks.
The results are based on face-to-face interviews with 1,002 respondents aged 15 and over across Lithuania, conducted in October 2025 as part of the Eurobarometer survey in all 27 EU Member States. The findings are representative of the Lithuanian population, with a margin of error not exceeding 3.1%.
