Lithuania among European leaders in e-government assessment results

Lithuania’s public sector digital services have received a solid evaluation at European level. In the European Commission’s European e-Government Scoreboard, a survey of 35 countries, Lithuania was ranked in the top group of countries, taking 8th place. This is an improvement on last year’s ranking of 12th in the survey.

“We are delighted to have been recognised by the European Commission for our structural reforms and planned digitisation measures in the public sector. These measures, which include the development of new e-services and the improvement of existing ones, will increase the efficiency of public administration and ensure greater progress in the digitisation of administrative and public services. It will also make these services more accessible to Lithuanian and foreign citizens and businesses,” said Aušrinė Armonaitė, the Minister of the Economy and Innovation.

According to this year’s European e-Government Scoreboard, Malta and Estonia are the European leaders in e-government. Their e-public services are the most user-oriented, transparent, technologically advanced and open to users of any European country. Luxembourg, Iceland, the Netherlands, Finland, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, and Norway, Spain and Portugal are next.

Lithuania is among the leading countries that have developed the most technologically advanced public e-services. The results are also excellent in terms of electronic services accessed through an eID.

A report published by the European Commission notes that less than half (46%) of services in Europe are available to cross-border users. The European leaders in electronic identification are Malta, Denmark, Lithuania, Estonia, Iceland, Finland and Norway, where more than 90% of services can be accessed using a national eID.

The eGovernment Scoreboard compares how governments across Europe are delivering e-public services and assesses the level of maturity of e-services in a country. Public e-services are assessed on the basis of 4 key dimensions: user-orientation, transparency, technical adaptability of e-services and cross-border delivery of e-services.

Progress in public e-services is assessed in 35 countries: the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Turkey.
