The largest global anti-corruption conference in Vilnius: confronting global threats while standing up for integrity
The largest International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), which is organised every two years in a different country around the world, will take place on June 18-21, 2024 and will be held in Vilnius. Next year’s premier integrity forum will bring together state leaders, civil society and private sector representatives from more than 140 countries around the world to discuss global security threats and risks to integrity.
The theme of the 21st Conference in Vilnius is “Confronting Global Threats: Standing Up for Integrity”. Challenges to transparency due to the climate change, distrust in the public sector, the spread of populist and kleptocratic regimes and others will be tackled.
“As the world grapples with challenges, we must remember that it is the fighters for integrity and justice who stand at the front lines, fearlessly battling the darkness. We urge governments, international organisations, businesses, and members of civil society to unite with us in the collective effort to safeguard democratic principles and untangle the intricate knot of corruption, in pursuit of the more just world”, – said Delia Ferreira Rubio, Chair of global non-governmental organisation “Transparency International”.
“A global conference of this level in Lithuania is a great opportunity to raise the questions that are relevant not only for Lithuania, our region, but also for the whole world. Challenges such as war or a pandemic not only fundamentally test states’ preparedness for crises, but also question the country’s level of transparency. As the main anti-corruption body in the country, together with other partners organising the event, we will aim to ensure that the biggest emerging threats are touched upon in the discussions of the Conference and the most effective methods of preserving integrity are discussed”, Linas Pernavas, Director of the Special Investigations Service of the Republic of Lithuania (STT), said about next year’s Conference.
“This is a great opportunity to share our anti-corruption successes and critically evaluate what we should do better. The world is still looking for answers how to bring decision-making closer to people and curb political corruption. It would be great if next year in Vilnius we could discuss the future of transparency in a new, innovative format with a much larger role for practitioners working with new technologies and academics studying human behaviour“, said Sergejus Muravjovas, a long-time CEO of “Transparency International” Lithuanian Chapter.
In 2022, at the 20th Conference held in the United States, an agreement has been made that it is necessary to strengthen alliances and support those who fight for their rights and a common future, because only with the joint efforts of all can we achieve significant results in creating the world we want. During the four days in Vilnius, the 21st International Conference will bring together those fighting for integrity from all the regions of the world to discuss and search for solutions on how to counter the growth of global threats affecting us today.
The IACC is the world’s foremost anti-corruption forum, working to tackle the biggest corruption threats in the world today and successfully influencing the global political and economic agenda since 1983. Last year’s conference in Washington D.C. was attended by Anthony J. Blinken, US Secretary of State, Maia Sandu, President of Moldova and many other dignitaries, while previous conferences have featured speeches by global leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Hillary Clinton, Kofi Annan, Al Gore, George Soros, Angel Gurria and many others.
In 2022, the IACC was held in the USA, South Korea in 2020, Denmark in 2018, Panama in 2016, Malaysia in 2015, Brazil in 2012.
